How to Cite While You Write (Apple Pages)

The steps required to cite a reference and generate a bibliography with Apple Pages are listed below.

First, insert citations:

  1. Open the EndNote library that contains the references you wish to cite.

  2. Start Pages and open the paper you are writing.

  3. When you are ready to cite a source, position the cursor in the text where you would like to put the citation.

  4. From the Insert menu, select EndNote Citation(s). A "Find EndNote Citations" dialog appears. If this is the first time you have used the Find Citations dialog, it may be completely blank because there are no previous search results to display.

  5. In the Find Citation box, enter identifying text for EndNote to locate the appropriate reference. This could be an author’s last name, a year, a keyword or any other combination of terms found in the reference.

  6. Press Return and EndNote compares the identifying text to your EndNote references and then lists the matching reference(s).

  7. Identify and highlight the citation(s) you wish to insert.

  8. Determine whether to apply the options at the bottom of the dialog:

  1. Click "Insert" to insert the selected reference(s) at the cursor in your paper. The citation is formatted according to the currently selected output style.

  2. Go back to step 3 to insert the next citation, and continue citing references this way.

Each time a citation is added to the paper, a cumulative bibliography is updated at the end of the paper.

Initially, the output style used to format the citations and bibliography is the style currently selected in your EndNote library. If you would like to change the output style selection, see Reformatting with a Different Style in Pages.
